About us..

The company was founded in 2005 as an independent, professional theatre company dedicated to providing a platform for theatre-makers working in Fringe theatre.The company has staged productions at various  theatres in and around South Africa (Artscape Arena, The Alexander Bar, The Rosebank Theatre, Die Kunskafee, the Klein Libertas Theatre, The Mill Theatre, The Drama Factory, The New Space theatre, Die Kunskafee)  and at theatre festivals: the Fugard Festival (Overall Winners in 2010 and 2011), the National Arts Festival (2011, 2012, 2017), Woordfees (2019) and The Cape Town Fringe Festival (2014). It has performed set works to schools and has taken part in Industrial Theatre, Environmental Theatre (eg GIS Satellite Launch, `Global Ballgame`) and Corporate Theatre projects. The Company has undertaken various Outreach programmes (senior citizens: Sarepta; Youth at Risk: Delft for the Dept of Social Services, Storytheatre for the Elderly: Labiance).

Since 2018, the company has also been producing work for emerging theatre-makers: `I Hamlet` directed by Kanya Viljoen, `Therapy` by Xola Honono (at Woordfees 2018) and Queen Bee by Alecia Milan and has extended its reach in curating events and spaces for all art forms and for a range of audiences. 

In 2024, a relaxed version of the musical, The Nose by Kit Goldstein-Grant, was performed at the Out the Woods Inclusive Arts Festival. 

Anex theatre provides production, workshop and rehearsal space to creative practitioners based in and around Cape Town. It curates spaces for workshops, arts events, theatre and film.

Margot Wood, Producer, Director, Designer, Actor After her undergraduate training in Drama at UCT, Ms Wood obtained an Honours in Acting and Directing from University of Natal followed by a Masters degree in Drama and a MPhil from the University of Stellenbosch. She obtained the Licentiate Teacher`s Diploma in Drama from Trinity College of London and a Fellowship in Directing from the same institution. She is as a freelance actor and director and has been involved in theatre as performer and director since 1978 when she started her professional career at the then SWA Performing Arts Council. Directing projects include productions for KKNK, Woordfees, The National Arts Festival and Suidoosterfees and two winning productions at the Fugard Festival in Nieu Bethesda in 2010 and 2011. She has appeared on stage recently in productions such as People are living there, Happy Days, The Glass Menagerie, At the Edge of the Light , Cabaret, Road to Mecca, The Second Advent and in local and international  film and TV productions. She has directed playwrights Tennessee Williams, Athol Fugard, Shakespeare, Dario Fo, Samuel Beckett amongst others in various genres ranging from Children`s Theatre, Cabaret, Musicals, to Theatre of the Absurd.
